2023 National Air Rifle League Postseason Week 2 Review

The 2023 season has proven to be one of the most competitive and unpredictable seasons yet. In the second week of the postseason, with teams chasing the championship title, 4 of the 6 games ended in upsets, with both top seeds being eliminated from their tournament.

Precision Championship Tournament

Granbury MCJROTC (6 - 3) used their best score of the season to upset number one seed American Legion Post 295 (8 - 1). They will advance to the Precision League title game, for the fifth season in a row, to face Sutter Union High School (8 - 1). 

Sutter Union High School had to use their second best score of the season to outlast third seed Everett Sportsman Junior Rifle Club (6 - 3). This will be the first appearance for Sutter Union High School in the Precision League title game.

Of note, this will be the second meeting between these two teams this season. Sutter Union High School won their regular season matchup, but by only 4.3 points.

Sporter Championship Tournament

Webb City AJROTC (7 - 2) upset top seed Zion Benton NJROTC (8 - 1) this past week and made it back to the Sporter Championship title game. There they will face number two seed Jack C. Hays MCJROTC (8 - 1). 

In their semifinals game, Jack C. Hays MCJROTC upset number two seed Mariner AJROTC (7 - 2). For Jack C. Hays MCJROTC, this will be their first appearance in the Sporter League title game. 

During the regular season, these two teams meet in week three. Webb City AJROTC won that game, but edged out Jack C. Hays MCJROTC by only 4.6 points.

Sporter Invitational Tournament

Sixteenth seed South Panola AFJROTC (5 - 4) keeps winning. In the semifinals they scored their second upset of the tournament against twelfth seed Kelly Walsh MCJROTC (4 - 5). They advanced to the Sporter Invitational title game to face Norview NJROTC (6 - 3). 

Norview NJROTC won their semifinal game, edging out eleventh seed C. T. Johnson AJROTC (4 - 5). 

The Sporter Invitational Tournament will be the first time this season South Panola AFJROTC and Norview NJROTC meet.
