Learn About the Basic Marksmanship Course Target

The Basic Marksmanship Course (BMC) target was created by the Civilian Marksmanship Program, about 20 years ago, as a means to help introduce brand new athletes to air rifle shooting. The target has the same aiming bull dimensions as the standard air rifle target, but with scoring rings three times the regular size. The larger scoring rings help give young shooters positive reinforcement as they learn the basics of marksmanship.

Both Orion and Athena support the BMC target. It may be used in both training and competition mode.

Using the BMC Target with Athena

Athena is already programmed to use the BMC target. To use it, first you should use the standard 10m Air Rifle aiming bull mask. Second, when you set up the match, tell the system to use the BMC scoring rings.

BMC in Practice Mode

When Athena is set in practice mode, specify the BMC target on the configuration screen, when creating a new match via the athlete monitor.

BMC in Competition Mode

You can create any Athena supported air rifle match using either the standard air rifle target or the BMC target. To use the BMC target simply select “BMC Air Rifle” from the EST Target Collection option.

Using Paper BMC Targets with Orion

Orion supports scoring the BMC target with our single bull BMC paper target. Depending on the skill of the athlete, Orion can score 5 or 10 shots on each paper target.

To use the BMC paper target with Orion, select “Single Bull Target” as the Paper Target Type, and change Shots per bull to 5 or 10.
